Burke Smith started his law firm in Omaha, Douglas County Nebraska, in July 2011, but has been a lawyer since graduating from the University of Nebraska College of Law in May 1992. After graduation from law school, he started out as a Deputy County Attorney in his home town of Lexington, Nebraska, then later in Kearney.
After representing the state of Nebraska for three years as a prosecutor, he went to work in private practice with his father, Bruce Smith in Lexington. During the next few years, Burke was a criminal defense attorney as well as representing people in various civil matters.
Burke’s career has included being a trust officer for one of the largest banks in Nebraska as well as being corporate counsel for a nationally recognized logistics company. He found that after being away from private practice, he missed the regular contact he had with individual clients. Learning what other people did, how they did it and how he could help them in troubled times was something that appealed to him. Few areas of the law provide as much help and relief to people than the area of bankruptcy, and that’s where he decided to go.
